Bridal Show Readiness

Happy New Year!!!!!!! It’s the start of a New Year and with that, the start of bridal show season around the globe. You’re newly engaged and ready to take planning by storm. First stop, bridal shows.  As Team Details finishes up the final touches for the Celebration Bridal Event this Sunday, we thought it was the perfect time to blog about bridal show readiness. I have been to bridal shows just for fun before being engaged alone, as a friend to a bride, as vendor and as a bride-to-be. Attending in the different capacities has made given me the opportunity to have a viewpoint from all those angles.

Most shows will have you register at the door and you get an identifier as the bride and possibly a bag to contain your goodies from vendors. That one bag will get heavy depending on the amount of booths you visit. It is a good idea to have a paper list or mental list of your needs ready. There will also be special offers for booking within a certain time frame of the show. With technology you are able to see what vendors are attending via the bridal show website, hashtags, and other social media outlets. Start looking at your vendors before the show and talk to them at the show if you are interested. We want to talk to you! This will help you prepare for those special offers that often have quick time frames of redemption.

The Who, What, When, Where, and Why of Bridal Shows

WHO should come?

Engaged brides, yes of course you! Who else should attend? I personally recommend the soon-to-be engaged brides as well. Don’t miss out on an opportunity to see and meet with so many vendors in one afternoon. Who should come with you? This all varies from person to person. Some brides want one person whether that be a mom, friend, member of the bridal party, or the groom-to-be. Others like to bring several people with them. No matter who makes it on the invite list, make sure they are just as prepared as you. Set the expectations of what you plan to accomplish. If you plan to move through the show slowly and be there for three hours, they should be prepared to as well. Make sure your guest is interested, ready for fun, focused, not on a time limit, and there to help you conquer your mission. When everyone is on the same page, it makes for an enjoyable time by all!

WHAT do you need to bring?

Trust me on the below list of things to bring. It will make the event so easy for you and your guest!

  • Water- to wash down samples and it’s a lot of work walking around shows
  • Notebook- to take notes
  • Small rolling suitcase or back pack- makes carrying around materials easy, you can try samples freely, and talk to vendors without full hands
  • Address labels-vendors want your contact information. Save your hand some pain, print some labels with your name, your grooms name, contact number, email address, mailing address, and wedding date.
  • Comfortable shoes- your feet will get tired
  • Comfortable clothes- leave your coat in the car, you will get warm inside the show with the amount of people.

WHEN is the right time to attend a show?

My rule of thumb for brides and brides-to-be is the 18 month rule. If your wedding falls within an 18 month window of the show, great time frame. Most vendors will accept bookings with the date as far 12-18 months out.

WHERE should you attend shows?

Do you have your venue booked or the area where you would like to get married? The “where” is important because vendors are likely to have certain mile radius before there is an additional travel fee. While most vendors love to travel and can accommodate you happily, be prepared. My recommendation is to attend bridal shows within a 60 mile radius from your venue.

WHY attend a bridal show?

Bridal shows are an excellent resource to see vendors in your preferred search area. You may see vendors that are new to the industry or some of your favorites you may already know. You are able to taste samples, meet vendors face-to-face, see dresses modeled, and walk away with valuable information you can take home. Remember the connections that you make with vendors when making decisions on whether to book. Whether you are just starting the wedding process or almost to the finish line, enjoy yourself!

Stop by our booth at the Celebrations Bridal Show this Sunday at the Von Braun Center North Hall from 12:30- 5pm in downtown Huntsville.
